Day 1 -The Journey – Dec. 31, 2018

Day 1 of the journey started on December 31st.  I have set my goal of completing 1,000 kilometers in 84 days, or 12 weeks.  My plan is to row 12,00 meters per day to keep up with the pace, and build a little margin for days where I come up short, or, days where I just can’t get on the rower.

I hope that none of those days exist.

All in all, Day 1 was not too bad.  I managed 1,000 meters on my Concept2Inc rowing erg, over 6 intervals, with a 1.5 minute rest between rows.  That was Part 1, done in the morning.  Repeated the same pace in the evening, coming in a little quicker than Round 1.  All in all, I was happy with my rows, and felt well afterward, although a little stiff.

I rang in the new year with my wife and child, then went to bed, to get ready for the next day.

Here are the pictures of Day 1 travels.

This was the route I took for Day 1, from the Bygdøy area of Oslo, to the island of Steilene, in the Oslofjord inlet.

Day 1 Start_Google Earth
My starting point of the Bygdøy area of Oslo.  I chose this area, due to the close proximity to the Viking Ship Museum (Vikingskipshuset).

This is a slide show of the close-ups I took of the route I travelled, 3 in total.

Day 1 End_Google Earth
This was my ending point for Day 1, the northern tip of the island of Steilene.  This is where I “made camp”.

This will be a long, tough journey, but it will be a success of willpower, strength, and resolve.  I hope to learn some things about myself, Vikings, and the areas I travel through, as I go along.  Feel free to share with me, if you have any experience in these areas.

At the end of Day 1, I have travelled the following measures:

Distance:  12,030 meters

Time:  0 hours, 57 minutes, and 50.3 seconds

Skål!
